11 Ways To Prepare For Morning Meditation
Achieving meditative bliss can be difficult for some but if you prepare well you`ll allow yourself a much better chance of getting there every morning
Each morning I run through a mental checklist before I attempt to sit still.
After years of meditating it’s something that I can now do within a moment or two not long after I wake. And it’s also something that allows me to know how deep my relaxing contemplation will be once I attempt to begin it during my morning routine.
So here are some of the things that I successfully try to tick off before I expect to be rewarded with a relaxing morning meditation:
1. Avoid eating late the night before
Although you are meditating on a new day what you do the night before affects the quality of what you do the morning after. And that means you have to be aware of what and how much you’ve eaten the night before.
Because what is inside your system on the morning of your attempted meditation will influence how well you can enter into a meditative state. So you need to avoid anything that may slow down your digestive system or bloat you up on the morning of your attempted relaxation.
2. Be careful what you watch on TV the night before
Because similarly to what you put into your body, you can also put damaging things into your mind by watching late-night television the night before too.
Now don’t get me wrong it’s understandable if you want to see the latest horror movie or a compelling documentary but although it’s best to watch that earlier in the evening if you must watch it at night it shouldn’t be the last thing that you see before you sleep.
So by replacing it with something stress-free like a comedy or an upbeat story you`ll soothe your subconscious into an easier way to fall asleep.
3. Avoid checking your phone and computer before meditation
Because if you do your morning brain is alerted to the happenings of what is required to do for that given day. And once that happens it’s difficult to get it out of your head.
For many, this is easier said than done as they are so reliant on a plethora of apps that are on their phones to help them to do this and that, but if you can’t be slow and silent early in the morning you will never be able to be calm within yourself when your brain tires later on in the day.
4. Stay clear of listening or watching the news before meditation
Because often the news is there to create shock and horror.
So you need to put it into context as being a series of news stations that are effectively competing against one another for watch time of the masses and not be sucked in by this cycle of negativity.
Now don’t get me wrong if you`re eager to keep aware of the news you still can but know that when you face it after meditating you`ll have a better outlook on how it will affect your life thereafter.
5. Make sure to cleanse your nostrils before practice
Because your ability to breathe is vital when trying to journey into a deep meditation. So by giving yourself a clear unobstructed passageway for your respiratory system to perform you`re allowing it to maximize its ability to breath consistently and softly.
6. Be aware of any drafts in your room
As when you sit still to meditate you don`t want a distraction that could trigger you to budge from your settled spot. So by checking any potential cracks in the window or doorway you`ll allow yourself to have a consistent flow of temperature throughout the room.
7. Fumigate your room by opening the window before you meditate
As the air from the night before maybe stale and it’s good to allow yourself your new breaths during meditation to be fresh because you want to give yourself the opportunity to be attracted to as many things you have in your control once you sit down and close your eyes.
By doing so you`ll be able to focus longer.
8. Clear your schedule for an hour afterward
As it’s not always that easy to settle yourself into deep meditation so it’s best to push things out from the time you are planning to meditate. That way if you find it difficult to get into the practice you’ll know you still have plenty of time to wind down and find that place of deep relaxation. And when you do you`ll be surprised how the meditative process envelopes you.
9. Avoid wearing jewelry when you begin
As it may make noise when you are trying to keep physically still. Instead, it’s best to leave your jewelry aside until after your exit out of the seated posture that you`ll adopt.
10. Wear warm, comfortable, and flexible clothes
Because no one else will be watching you so you only need to suit your physical comfort levels and not be bothered about what other people think about your choice of fashion. And by wearing what makes you feel good it’s welcoming you into a space that will make you feel at ease.
11. If required listen to soft music before you start
As it will help nullify your thoughts and allow you to focus on something consistent and pleasant. And if you wish you can lower the volume and let the soft music play in the background once you begin your meditative practice.
