5 Easy Ways To Calm Your Mind

My head was all over the place.
I had not long left school and it should have been an exciting time in life. Instead, though I was lost. I didn’t know where to go or what to do with my life.
School for me wasn’t my favorite thing and getting out of it felt like I was being released from 5 years in prison.
And like a prisoner who was going back into society, I didn’t quite fit in. All my peers had moved on to college or something great they had planned for but I was left behind because I had no college or plans to get immersed in. Most of them had a direction and although not all of them followed it at that stage they thought that it was their path and so were constructive in what they were doing.
Yet I didn’t have a direction and I needed clarity to sort my head.
At the time I was young and was only learning about how the human mind worked. But I was stumbling on things that were intriguing me and making me want to go further in my learning.
1.And one of the things that I was beginning to find out about concerned calming my mind.
At that stage, I had tried mediation out before I ever officially learned about it. Because I used to sit and close my eyes and breath for a few minutes to challenge myself to be silent. Although I had not heard the word ‘meditation’ at the time I knew that inner silence was a special place to be.
Of course, I wasn’t aware of how many millions had benefited from it in the world but it challenged me and I felt that was a good thing.
Also, the darkness had created a stillness that I hadn’t encountered even when I was falling asleep every night.
I knew then there was something more powerful than what I had been taught in school. And looking back and knowing what I know now in truth I wasn’t meditating deeply then but I was being completely mindful.
2. As mindfulness is about being aware of your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and the world around you.
Now you may think that if you have your eyes closed you can’t be fully aware?
But you can.
Because when your eyes are open they are taking in so many different colors, shapes, and dimensions that are in front of you and there is too much distraction. You can’t possibly concentrate on everything at once. You need to be sure that you focus your entire being on what is going on beyond what is immediately in front of you.
It’s vital to become aware of what is behind you, to the left, to the right of you, and even outside the room and window of the room that you’re in.
That’s why when your eyes are closed you can tap into the sounds in front of you, but also around your room, and even outside of the room. Your ears are sharpened by your lack of focus on what your eyes are taking in. And because your brain can only concentrate on one thing at a time then by ceasing the visual stimuli you`re stopping the gas line for many of your thoughts to keep swirling around your mind too.
Because being truly mindful is about having an awareness of the stillness around you rather than being swayed by the many thoughts that are in your head.
3. Another way of finding calmness can come from some people through the form of hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is a way of being guided into the state of hypnosis.
This is a trance-like state which deals with bringing you into deep concentration on where and what you’re being guided to focus on.
If you think of times when you were sucked into a great story and your brain was fully aware of what was going on in it you probably found it difficult to be distracted away from somewhere within the main story you were pulled in by. Sure your mind may have wandered a bit but if it did it probably was trying to stitch together the beginning, middle, or end of the story so that you could get even more from the experience you were initially immersed by.
4. Prayer is a way of praising something or someone that you feel is greater than yourself.
And in doing so you’re ignoring your problems and realizing that there are things greater than where your stand in life. This allows for hope and soothes the fear circuitry in your brain.
And because many prayers are usually said it makes certain over a longer period there is less stress in your mind.
Because most prayer services across a variety of religions are over an hour at least once a week or scattered throughout a given day for a few minutes here and there.
That’s enough for our brain to take a break from the daily grind and get some reprieve from all the tough challenges that we face every day.
And if all of those things are too much for you and you struggle with believing in them in some way you can always seek calmness in nature.
5. As a simple walk to a quieter place will lead you to a place of peace.
And by leaving all your troubles behind and making sure all technologies are not in your pocket it assures you that you’re at one with the natural world.
