5 Ways To Relax When You’re Studying

Life demands that we study information and become experts in one field or another but with all of this study comes stress but if you know how to relax you`ll feel as if it’s just another part of your working day.
I can’t count on one hand how many degrees I have but I know I`m a pretty relaxed guy.
Years of my life have been poured into getting qualified at this or that. At times the pressure of having to finish one course over another was huge. And the results would dictate what I’d eat and where I would live in the future.
When those times of stress come you have to keep your cool.
Because they are part of the process of growth. And although the prospectus of many degree courses in great universities around the world never advertise that they’ll be big pressure in having to study for successful results the fact is that there is big pressure when exam time rolls around at the end of each term. And that stress alone can be enough to break many people.
In the past, I’ve met many more intelligent people than me along the way who caved in at the final hurdle when they had to sit an exam and pass it for a result that would elevate their lifestyle.
Sure though, they`ll still be brainy people even though they never did their exams but did they make the correct choice?
Well, only they know that answer.
Yet, without a doubt, a good education gives you more options along the career path. It allows you a bit of leeway to choose different jobs in a variety of different locations. You`ll be able to demand more pay from the employer and have a better opportunity of being promoted to management or the next grade of employment once you spend some time in the original job you’re been hired for.
In that way, it’s never bad to have an education behind you.
But of course, not everyone wants to be employed as some like to go out and make their living by starting a business or following their hunch of how to make money. These people can be more successful than those with degrees under their belt. But they’ll have to make sure to earn a lot more money from their venture because they won’t have that underlying education to lean on if the economy collapses or something goes wrong in their business.
And even if you are very entrepreneurial you`ll have to study things along the way to fight off the competition and be ahead of them over time too.
Sure, you may not have to do exams but you`ll have to continue to learn to stay ahead of the chasing pack who`ll all want the customers that you`ve worked so hard for.
And with study can comes a certain amount of stress.
Years ago sitting at a desk in the corner of a poorly lit bedroom with a couple of books meant that study was challenging for many. In the more recent past study stress can come from hours of being hunched over with a mobile phone or laptop on your knees. In doing so not only does your brain become tired but your body’s hunched position can mean that physical stress is also a problem.
And that’s why relaxing after studying is important.
Because our brains can become overly analytical when they are studying and when that occurs it means that all others areas of your brain are not active.
Sure you can sleep after study and that will rest parts of you.
But you can also do alternative activities in between study sessions to make you feel more relaxed:
- By drawing pictures, trying art therapy, or simply shutting your eyes to imagine yourself in another world you`re lighting up parts of your brain that demand little analysis and instead allow you to exercise your creative spark,
- By going for a walk in nature and leaving any mobile phone or electronic device aside you`re allowing your brain to forget about things that have been stressing you for a while,
- Even taking time out to meditate is going to give you some reprieve from the stress you feel after spending too much time reading information that challenges you,
- Talking to a good friend and having a laugh with them about things that are not related to your work will also make you feel as if there are other things in life away from what stresses you with school or work,
and
- Regular breaks throughout your study schedule mean that you can take in more information when you study but also you can feel more balanced by triggering other parts of your brain with more attention other than the long lengths of time that it may take to study without interruption.
Of course, there are other ways to distress from studying as well.
But the main thing is that when you lie down in bed at nighttime that you`re not thinking about what stressed you throughout your time spent studying. At that stage, you have to make sure you`re nice and relaxed so that your brain is slowing down naturally and sleeping is the next port of call.
Because it’s in sleep that you`ll restore those brain cells that are needed for another day of studying each morning.
So take your time and know that there is no race to having the most knowledge and that study is a regular part of life so that every day you`re ahead of the pack and looking forward to developing yourself for a stress-free lifetime of learning.
