There are many great books on neuroplasticity and how it can help re-wire your brain.

From theories and practices to case studies of people who have changed their brains many authors are intent on sharing the power that your brain has even as it ages.

Although medicine has a huge part to play in neurological healing and development, there are also many authors who write on how other simpler strategies can be used to maximize your brain’s potential to rewire itself.

Here are eight books that have proven to be very popular in explaining neuroplasticity and how understanding them and putting their theory into operation can help you throughout your life:

1. The power of positive thinking can re-wire your brain according to the book The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science.

In the book there are stories from people who have survived brain injuries such as a stroke victim who learned to talk and move again, a ninety-year-old doctor who continues to practice medicine, and the woman with half a brain. Psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Norman Doidge who is a bestselling author explains how neuroplasticity can raise IQs, improve people’s memories, and even help blind people to see by using the brain’s ability to adapt to challenging problems.

2. The same author writes how sound, vibration, movement, and light can transform the brain.

And Doidge’s techniques work without unpleasant side effects that medication and other modalities may give. In his other book, The Brain’s Way of Healing, he goes deep into specific cases of people who have brain injuries and learning disorders, and those who have overcome attention deficit disorder. He also accounts how people have experienced relief from symptoms of autism, found a decrease in chronic pain; and who have recovered from debilitating strokes. Even those that have had multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and Parkinson’s disease can aid from his ideas too.

3. Shad Helmstetter, Ph.D wrote the book The Power of Neuroplasticity which represents how the latest research into neuroscience can help you re-wire your brain.

He believes that you can improve your fitness and health, reach more personal goals, change your attitudes, defeat negativity, improve clarity and intelligence and even reshape your life by reading the book and putting his advice into action.

4. Neuroplasticity: Your Brain’s Superpower: Change Your Brain and Change Your Life is an interesting book.

Concentrating on 100 million American sufferers who have a neurological illness and how these huge numbers of problems are expected to rise in the coming years, author Phillippe Douyon explains how the cost of health care will surpass the 1 trillion dollar mark as a result. Douyon concentrates on how everyone can have a different relationship with their brain instead of having a life filled with emotional issues, cognitive impairment, or physical and psychological problems too.

5. The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force is a book that explains the difference between the mind and the brain.

It describes how the mind can be controlled and that conventional thinking is flawed. Authors Jeffrey M. Schwartz and Sharon Begley explain that your mind has its own life of existence other than the human brain.

They feel that by using your mind you can reshape your brain and use what Schwartz calls self–directed neuroplasticity. He believes this is a mental force. Based on fundamental principles of mindfulness from the Buddhist tradition, the book deals with a moral choice, human free will, and how these all affect the mind and the brain.

6. In Soft Wired Dr. Michael Merzenich describes how your brain re-wires itself throughout its lifetime.

The choice throughout your life is whether or not you want to take control of that process or not.

Dr. Michael Merzenich explains how his scientifically proven advice can show how your memories, emotions, skills, and quirks came about and how you can rejuvenate your brain even as you age.

7. Adrian Winship wrote Neuroplasticity: Exercises to Improve Cognitive Flexibility which gives you 12 interpersonal exercises that will improve your cognitive flexibility.

The book delves into the most popular brain games on the market and the author shows how many of them are not as effective as you may think and if you do the correct exercises you can defeat your phobias, insomnia, and addictions instead. Unlike psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Norman Doidge’s book which championed positive thinking, Winship speaks of how positive thinking may be affecting you adversely at times and how instead of using it as a way to change he offers explanations of how you can do use your thoughts differently as well. In the book, the author sets out a simple 6-step process used by cognitive behavioral therapists that will trigger neuroplasticity in the brain.

Shorter again, Winship gives a 5 step process of changing your habits using the same theory of how the brain can change too.

8. Melaine Greenberg Ph.D. acknowledges how there is a lot of stress on people nowadays and although it’s difficult to avoid very stressful situations we can change how we react to them.

In her book The Stress-Proof Brain: Master Your Emotional Response to Stress Using Mindfulness and Neuroplasticity, Greenberg feels that positive emotions have a huge to play in how we deal with stressful situations.
