Imagine if you were told you had to work forever!

And that there was no such thing as retirement.

How would you feel?

I’m sure there are many people out there that would shudder at the thought. They`d think that their best-laid plans would be scuppered if there was no retirement coming down the line.

So many would not be motivated to work until they get to that age.

And from there, their overall life vision would crumble.

But what if you thought about working a different way?

That would change your overall vision and then re-frame your thinking on retirement. And when it did that means your overall plan would be changed for you.

Yet not many people will venture to go there in their mind.

Instead, they`ll get a calendar and tick off the months, weeks, and days until retirement.

And when they get to that age they are aware that they are too jaded and worn out to focus on their dreams. By then they`ve spent decades doing what is required of them when in reality they wished to do something else with their time.

But life is not supposed to be designed like that.

In fact, it’s only in the past few decades that the culture of retirement came about at all. Before the second world war, many Americans worked until they died and it was not until after the war that they brought in social security cheques for workers who had been employed for their entire careers. Yet not many could afford to retire that bit earlier in life until the 1980s because that’s when the average social security cheque rose to above $1,000 a month to adjust to inflation.

So in reality, the concept of retirement is only one generation old.

Yet this traditional notion of work and retirement does not always look at what you dream of doing. Because if it did then you`d be able to dictate the money that you earn and exactly how and what you spend all your time on.

Of course, though it’s not always easy to get the money you want straight away it is not impossible either.

However, what’s more than likely is that you`ll have to work at it and that will take time. Yet when you pull away from spending all your time at a job you are not meant to be doing then you`ll begin to see a clearer vision of where you need to go to be successful.

And when you see that you can begin to work hard at trying to attain a greater level of income.

I`m not saying that will be very easy at the beginning but when you release yourself to try it you`ll enjoy the ride even if it’s both rough and smooth at times.

Because that’s the way life goes.

Sometimes there are good times, sometimes there are bad times.

But once you work at something you feel you`re supposed to be doing you`ll be forced to learn a lot more about it. From there you`ll immediately improve at what you`re doing. And although you`ll be trying to gain your market share you`ll run up against others that are better than you in your field.

Yet the moment you decide to work at what you think you should be working at you`ll begin to compete with the best in that marketplace.

And from there you`ll learn how they began to do what they do. That’s when you`ll begin to gauge how much time and money you can earn in the area that you`re intent on working in. Then from there, you`ll be able to plan how long it takes to make an income from your chosen career.

And once you do you`ll be in control of how much more you want to earn.

Because by that stage you`ll have met others along your path that have gone there before you. They`ll know exactly how it feels to do what you`re doing and some of them may guide you to where you want to go. Yet still, you`ll have to push yourself to get there all the same.

So after all that passionate work why would you think of retiring?

For if you love what you`re doing and it makes you feel alive then spending more time at it will only produce more rewards for you. After all, that is what the concept of retirement is- being rewarded for a lifetime of work.

So maybe it does not work we should be wary of but how we spend our time and what we think about during our waking moments of every day. Because once we change those two things we`ll notice that we can change the outcome of our later years on earth too.

And instead of making them years of old age sculpted by watching the clock tick by we can replace it with a golden time of joy fuelled by our passionate energy of continuing to do what we love to do.
