Meditate.

It’s one simple word but it’s not that easy to do.

From Boom To Gloom:

In 2008 when the world went into recession little did I know that I was going to be caught in the midst of all the economic doom.

For most of my twenties, it was a dance. I socialized several nights a week in pubs, clubs, and restaurants but before I knew it there was nowhere to go and nothing to do. My twenties had been a blast but not long after the 2008 world recession hit, everything changed. Although my business was lauded for its great value and service and for overtaking it’s only other competitor in the city it suddenly hit a dead end.

I was forced to close and carry debt with me for years to come.

Poverty And Hopelessness:

I quickly realized that I had nothing. Not a red cent.

In fact, customers had bought memberships from me and demanded that I pay them back even though I was completely broke. I rang them up and sorted out a financing plan so that I`d pay them off little by little week by week. Of course, it would take time, and legally, I didn’t have to do it, but I felt it was the right thing to do at that time. I knew that this was my new reality and as there were other businesses closing, government cutbacks in many areas of funding, growing depression, and suicide rates going through the roof, I now had to protect myself from this hopelessness.

That’s when I decided to go much deeper into the meditative practice that I knew worked for me in the past and find something that gave me answers to all the doom and gloom around me.

Having Nothing and No one But Time:

When you have nothing but time, you soon realize that it’s the greatest gift that you`ll get in life.

Money and time are very similar because both come and go in your life. You can use both by either spending them on something immediately exciting or you can invest them into your future for a rainy day. As I had no money but plenty of time I decided to invest it into my meditation and see what would happen.

That’s when I realized how truly powerful meditation is and why everyone should do it no matter what.

Daily Worries Delay The True Meditative Effect:

When I first started out with meditation I had read loads of books on the topic searching for scientific proof and case studies of how it boosted people’s lives.

I thought that if I was going to invest all my time in something that seemed so awkward to do then I needed to quantify its worth against the time I was investing in it. Back then I preferred to invest an intense period into something for a while so that it would then allow me to have my daily routine free to just get out there and make things happen for myself. For example, I was so broke that I needed cash to get to the end of the day and had this daily pressure where the only logical thing to do was to just get as many job resumes out as possible, attend interviews, and take any employment just to get back on my financial feet.

But, this rational way of thinking is the opposite of the timelessness that meditation gives you.

Your Perception of Meditation:

When I first sat on a mat, closed my eyes, and waited for the meditative effect, I was expecting something to change in the world around me.

After a couple of moments, I`d peep one eye open and check how many minutes had passed so that I’d be able to judge myself on my achievement of meditating for that day. But I soon realized that this type of practice was not going to cut it. Rather than it being an analytical exercise, I`d have to shut off my thinking and follow a few very simple rules for a while.

And it was my relationship with time that was proving to be a big problem at the beginning but that was to change immediately.

Giving Up Your Thoughts:

The odd thing about telling yourself to:

‘Stop thinking!”

Is that you start to ask:

“Why?”

And of course, in so doing you think other thoughts and makeup answers to your questions. But then you`re back thinking again! That’s why you need to totally surrender to your stillness and breath. As you enter into your meditative practice you need to accept that things won’t change in the world around you, but that instead, you`ll change to be more ready for its challenges.

Once your thoughts go away your breath becomes automatically in flow with your still body and that’s where the changes begin.

Time does what it wishes and before you know it your investment reaps rewards.

From Gloom Back To Boom:

By the time I`d got into a daily routine of meditation the world was still on its financial knees.

The economic forecast was getting gloomier but my mind was becoming clearer. The worse things went on in the world, the better I felt about my present and my future. I was deepening my clarity and reinforcing my resilience.

Before long, I had learned that I had turned from having nothing into having everything.

I may not have had a red cent at all but I had truly now found sense in it all.
