If you are writing to get followers online you need to know it won’t come easily so you have to have a passion for what you do and we appreciate the comments you get from your readers

Write.

That’s all I can say about your journey to 1,000 followers on Medium. Because if I`m being completely honest with you it’s difficult to know what else is the way to grow on the platform as it’s a tricky platform to figure out. So it’s lucky I`m not one of these people who are bothered about having millions of non-interactive followers.

But that’s not to say I don’t want followers, because I do.

Growing followers is a great way to measure how good your writing is and who appreciates it. Otherwise, it can be very difficult to decipher what’s considered a good piece of writing on Medium or not. And that’s why I`m so thankful for all of the followers I have.

Not to mention the comments they have left on my profile.

Because without the comments I don’t know if those that viewed the articles read the whole article or not and have properly reflected on what they`ve read. Now don’t get me wrong there are statistics on Medium that allow you to track your readers but unless you get interaction from your readers you’ll never know the specific feelings of the readers.

As I try to use the statistics that I have to soothe the feelings of those that choose to read my writing.

That’s why I`m going to strive even more for followers on the platform because the more followers I have the better the feelings I will bring to those that read my articles. And the more help I will be giving to those that follow my work.

But don’t be fooled because reaching 1,000 followers on Medium does take effort.

So you need to be prepared to spend lots of time writing, editing, and learning from the feedback that you may or may not get.

For me, the whole journey to 1,000 Medium followers has been achieved in 11 months. When I started out writing there I never thought it would take so long. I even stopped publishing for a few weeks because my writing was not getting noticed by anyone.

Here’s a breakdown of my statistical journey so it may help you if you consider writing there.

For the first 7 months or so I climbed to over 10 followers and then up as far as 18 followers. Around that time the numbers climbed by one or two here and there and dropped by one or two now and then as well. The follower count went up and then down again a couple of times and it was very discouraging.

Worse still the numbers were so low and were neither consistently growing nor decreasing that I had no way to gauge if what I was writing was worthwhile for the readers or not.

So I took a break from publishing on Medium.

I wanted to decide if I was going to continue writing on it or not. And if I did continue I needed to devise a better plan for my writing to improve. Then one day I got an email saying I had some new followers so I logged back on the platform and was surprised to see that my followers had grown beyond the half-century mark.

So from then on, I wrote a bit more.

Soon after I reached the 100 follower mark on Medium. In all, that took me 9 months and over 230 published articles. That means I only got a follower every 2.3 stories on Medium.

I think you`ll agree that’s a lot of effort for very few followers.

Still, when my followers hit the century mark they began to grow and do so on a definite upward trajectory. And that’s when the statistics began a lot more productive to look at. Because for the next few months I wrote 39 articles and got another 900 followers.

That works out at nearly 23 new followers per article.

I`ll think you agree that’s a much better return on the investment of time and effort over 11 months than the first 230 articles that I wrote!

And then there are the badges that I earned in the meantime.

Because Medium decided to reward me as being a top writer in both psychology and mental health so that was encouraging and allowed me to know my published work there was helping people.

So it seems my writing is on the right track and my contributions, on the whole, are being appreciated.

And although 1,000 followers have taken almost a year to attain and it’s not a big number of followers in comparison to other writers on Medium or other content producers on other social media platforms it means I’ve contributed to helping a lot more than I would have if I kept my knowledge to myself.

Knowing that makes me feel the platform attracts people who truly want to learn.

So I`ve decided to work hard over the coming time to continue to publish there and see where it brings my writing and more importantly I`m assured that it’s helping people learn and adjust their lives for the better.

And that will make me feel good every time I sit down to write!
